Broken Arrow’s Connor Sullivan – Army National Guard Spotlight

Former Broken Arrow High School student Connor Sullivan enlisted into the Oklahoma Army National Guard when he was a senior. Making that decision to serve his state and country was an easy one for Sullivan.

“I knew I wanted to join the military since I was a little boy, but it wasn’t until I was a sophomore in high school when I knew I wanted to join the National Guard,” said Sullivan.

With a history of service in the U.S. Army, Sullivan’s decision to follow in the footsteps of other family members meant he would accelerate his life and enter adulthood as a soldier.

“My great grandpa served in the United States Army,” said Sullivan. “I love the feeling that I’m doing what I’m doing to help other people’s lives.”

When Sullivan was a student at Broken Arrow High School, he played football which helped him through the physical challenges recruits face during basic training.

“I was physically prepared even a little mentally prepared when I went to basic training,” said Sullivan.

Now serving in the Oklahoma National Guard as an 88M or Truck Driver, Sullivan said the recruiting process was fairly simple.

“My recruiter was very easy going, no pressure and very informative,” said Sullivan.
In his free time, Sullivan said he enjoys spending it with family.

“I’m busy twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week, but any free time I get I try to spend it with my family.”

Sullivan is now a full member of the Oklahoma National Guard and is part of the greatest fighting force in the world. For joining, Sullivan can attend college tuition free and receive other benefits such as health care and life insurance at a lower cost than normal.
