East Central’s Alaysha Richards -Tulsa Tech Spotlight

By Derrick Smith

When high school students near the end of their high school years, they begin to think about the future and what it may hold for them. Alaysha Richards, who is a junior at East Central High School, is getting a head start on her life after she graduates.

Along with being a student at ECHS, Richards also attends Tulsa Tech, where she is a member of the Collision Refinishing program.

“I love working with my hands,” she said. “Tulsa Tech is helping me build my skills, learn to work together as a team, and is also helping me plan for my future. Once I graduate, I want to work in a car shop for four years while going to college to earn a degree in business. I also want to model and travel as well.”

Alaysha first heard about Tulsa Tech at her school. She says that when she heard what all they offered, she knew it was what she wanted to do.

“I heard that I could learn leadership skills, meet new people, and be successful in life while also achieving my goals. I knew it was what I wanted to do.”

As an East Central Cardinal, Richards is a member of the soccer and volleyball teams. She says that it takes a lot to be successful in her sports.

“You have to be willing to put in the hard work,” Alaysha stated. “You also have to work as a team and push each other to be better no matter what.”

Throughout her life and athletic career, Richards has had different influences on her life. But out of them all, she says that there is one person that she looks up to the most.

“My big sister is definitely the biggest role model for me,” she said. “Ever since my mom passed away, my oldest sister and I have become very close. She is working hard to start her own business and is encouraging me to do so too.”

Along with playing soccer and volleyball, Richards is also the captain of the Dance Team.
