Union Girls Basketball Team Preview – Presented By Kerry Engelson Shelter Insurance Agent

GIRLS
Coach: Joe Redmond

20-21 Record: 19-2

After a run to last season’s state semifinals, Joe Redmond says his Union girls are ready to take that next step. “Our seniors, through three years, are 61-13 and ready to be the focal point and leaders of the program,” Redmond says. “We return five key contributors from last season but, beyond that, we will be very young but talented. We will be looking for some of those young players to learn and come into their own as the season progresses.” Leading Union on the court is T.K. Pitts (6-1, Sr.).

Pitts is an SMU commit that averaged 11.0 points per game last year. “She has been playing with a ton of confidence as she steps into her new role as leader of this team,” says Redmond. Makenzie Malham (5-10, Sr.) and Sydni Smith (6-2, Sr.) are two other returning starters that both averaged 7.0 points per game last season. Malham is two-point star that is committed to play soccer at Arkansas. Desiree Marshall-Penny (5-5, Sr.) was the team’s backup point guard last year and will likely be called upon to play a bigger role this year. “Desiree is a very good on-ball defender and will set the tone for us defensively,” says Redmond. Aubrey Hishaw (6-0, Jr.) will also likely be asked to play a bigger role after being the sixth-man last season. JaMiya Woodard (5-10, Fr.), Brooke Bettis (5-5, Fr.), and Vanessa Coleman (5-7, Fr.) are three freshmen that Redmond says are very talented and will likely contribute early in the season.
