Owasso’s Hannah Colburn – Tulsa Tech Spotlight

Once a student reaches high school, most are preparing and planning for life once they graduate. Whether it is working towards higher education, entering the workforce, or something else, Tulsa Tech offers them a head start. Hannah Colburn says that she first heard about it at her high school and could see the benefits.

“The counselors at Owasso High School came by all the classes and gave us some information about Tulsa Tech,” she said. “I was interested because it gave me a chance to better myself and my skills. I am currently in the photography program, and I am really interested in taking pictures and using it in my future.”

Colburn, who is a junior, is also a member of the concert band and marching bands at Owasso. She says that along with playing an instrument, a band is a close-knit group.

“We get to have really close relationships with all of our friends,” she said. “It is a great feeling in general when we finish our show and are exhausted but are applauded for our hard work.”

Throughout her time in the band, Hannah has enjoyed some outstanding moments, but she says that there is one that tops the list.

“Walking onto the field in Lucas Oil Stadium was my most memorable moment,” Colburn said. “It is an extremely large stadium, and I was really nervous, but it was a great experience.”

The band has been a big part of Colburn’s life and she says that there are a few people that have impacted her.

“My directors, my seniors, and other bands we compete against have all helped me along the way,” she said. “The directors are always pushing us to be our best. The seniors are always there to help us if we need better technique. The other bands are great because, in band, we support the other bands and that is just a great feeling.”

Along with the band, Hannah is also a member of the National Honor Society and the National Technical Honor Society. She says that she would recommend Tulsa Tech to anyone considering it, but cannot decide.
“It is definitely worth it,” she said. “It prepares you for your future and if it is a career you are interested in, then it is a good start.”
