Booker T. Washington’s Jordan Drew – athlete spotlight presented by excel therapy

By Derrick Smith

High school athletes like Jordan Drew have numerous professional athletes that they follow on social media. Some may follow them for the content they post, but Jordan says that his favorite follow is a guy from Tulsa that has made it big in the pros but remembers where he came from.

“My favorite person to follow on social media is Tyler Lockett,” he said. “I love how he plays the game of football so fluently and also how he gives back and shows respect to Tulsa, his community.”

A senior at Booker T. Washington High School, Jordan competes in football, basketball, and track for the Hornets. He says that being your best requires a lot, but he also knows that the hard work will pay off because it has already started to for him.

“Being your best takes hard work and consistency,” he said. “The hard work I have put in has allowed me to have a couple of moments that I consider highlight moments. The first was scoring a touchdown on ESPN in front of hundreds of thousands of people. The other would have to be signing to play football at the next level. I will be attending Utah State University to play defensive back on the football team.”

When he is out there competing, Drew says that there are a few things that drive him to be his best.

“One of the biggest things that motivates me is my grandpa,” he said. “He always told me ever since I was little that I was going to be special in football. When he used to take care of me he always told me to never give up on my dreams. I also just enjoy having fun when I am competing. My uncle Bobby Jr. is someone that I would consider to be a role model for me. He works hard at everything he does, and I want to be that hard of a worker.”

Jordan and his teammates get along well, but he says that he is not afraid to go up against them in practice and actually enjoys it.

“I always enjoy beating Jaden King or Gentry Williams,” he said. “The teammate I battle the most at practice is Jaden King because he gives me 100 percent every time and also he’s a competitor just like me.”
