Athlete Spotlight: Owasso’s Jayelle Austin – Presented by William Jordan Farmers Insurance

What’s the key to success? There are lot’s of factors that come into play, but the majority of very successful people figure out ways to plan and prepare for the future. In other words, they set goals, or an objective they can work toward. For Owasso sophomore Jayelle Austin, setting goals and planning ahead is already routine. While Austin is just entering her sophomore year of high school, she is already thinking about the future and knows what she wants to accomplish both on and off the field.

“After high school I want to play college softball,” she said. In addition to continuing her playing career, Austin also wants to study medicine and become a veterinarian. But, before all that, Austin has a few other goals in mind.

Last year the Owasso Lady Rams finished runner-up in Class 6A fastpitch softball competition, and making it all the way to the title game gave Austin some perspective and additional motivation. Austin loves to compete and now has a specific goal in mind before she finishes high school.

“The ultimate goal for my team is to win a state championship,” Austin said. “Personally I want to become a better leader while etching my name in the Owasso record books.”

However, to be successful it’s important to have support, and Austin knows exactly where she can find hers. Softball is a team game and it provides a great support system. So far Austin has found that the Lady Rams are like one big family – a sisterhood. However, for Austin, her parents remain the biggest supporters in her life. She said that her parents inspire her every day and that they give her the time, support, and care that allow her to chase her dreams and accomplish her goals. Going into her sophomore year Jayelle Austin has a bright future ahead with a solid support system, mature perspective, and the ability to stay motivated and achieve her goals.
