Broken Arrow Volleyball Spotlight with Lauren Harms – Presented by Energy Bar Nutrition

Lauren Harms first began playing volleyball at eight-years-old. She immediately took to the sport and her love and passion for the game has only grown.

Currently,  Harms is a junior at Broken Arrow and plays outside hitter for the Tigers. As an outside hitter Harms is tasked with keeping the team’s energy up, utilizing a variety of hits, passes, and setting blocks.

“My favorite aspect of the sport is the feeling of having such a high, intense energy surrounding you at all times,” Harms said.

One aspect that Harms and the Tigers enjoy is their pre game ritual to get themselves focused and in the zone. As with any team sport, it’s important to get everyone on the same page and focused on the task at hand.

“Before big games we always play songs that will hype the whole team up,” Harms said. “We also just spend time together talking and calming our nerves.”

While Harms enjoys the competition, she also appreciates the bonding moments that take place off the court between her and her teammates.

“My favorite memory at Broken Arrow has to be when the varsity team was in Norman for a tournament and some of us were hiding around a hotel room to scare people,” Harms said.

Volleyball is a passion for Harms and the only sport she currently plays. One person she can turn to for advice about volleyball is her cousin.

“She went D1 in college,” Harms said. “She constantly works hard and pursues her goals.”

After high school Harms is hoping to continue her volleyball career. Ideally she wants to earn a volleyball scholarship, but is also focused on her education.

“I want to study either architectural engineering or mathematics,” Harms said.
