Glenpool’s Kayten Herman – Top 100 Spotlight – Presented by Rose Rock Pharmacy

By Derrick Smith

Throughout an athlete’s career, they can have moments that stick with them for a long time. These moments could be a personal milestone or achievement or even a team accomplishment. Kayten Herman is a senior at Glenpool High School and she says that her favorite moment of playing sports happened just this season.

“The highlight of my career so far was my first home run of my senior season,” she stated. “It was also my first career grand slam. It was a great feeling to be able to share that moment with my teammates.”

Herman plays catcher, first base, and utility for the Lady Warriors softball team. She has invested a lot of time so that she can reach her full potential on the field.

“For me to be successful in softball, it has taken blood, sweat and tears,” she said. “It has taken many hours at practice, long weekends at the ballpark and extra work on my own. The support of my family, friends and coaches has also pushed me to excel and be the best I can be. The opportunity that I get daily to achieve my present and future goals. My goals not only on the field but also in the classroom.”

Both as an athlete and as a student, Kayten has had a few people that have had an impact on her life and she says that they have helped shape her into who she is today.

Kayten Herman “My mom is the biggest role model for me,” she said. “She was a college athlete and knows what work it takes to succeed at a higher level. She pushes me to be my best and gives me criticism if and when needed. Sydney Pennington is also a role model of mine. She is a hard worker and determined athlete. Growing up watching her play I saw that every time she stepped on the field. In the classroom, my 6th grade science teacher Mr. Farminer helped me become a better student. The high expectations and no excuses that he taught in his classroom helped me understand how important academics were.”
