Coweta Football Spotlight – Na’Kylan Starks – Presented by BancFirst

Na’Kylan Starks is a tremendous athlete and takes both academics and athletics seriously. As a senior at Coweta, Starks shines on the gridiron and basketball court playing wide receiver and point guard. Starks had an impressive year for the Tigers football team last year as he racked up over 2,000 yards and was equally as impressive playing on the basketball squad. Aside from playing for Coweta, Starks also plays on the Griffin Select basketball team.

In the classroom Starks always puts in effort and appreciates the teachers he has had over the years. One of whom stands out in particular.

“Mrs. Sweet really cared for the class of ‘23,” Starks said, “supporting sports and everything!”

On the field Starks has made many memorable memories, and is looking forward to making some more his senior year.

“The highlight of my career [so far] is probably scoring three touchdowns against Bishop McGuiness or a kickoff return freshman year against Bishop Kelly,” Starks said.

Coaches speak highly of Starks saying that he is an unselfish player that will do anything to make the team better. Starks works to improve his game by constantly watching film and taking every practice seriously and competing with his teammates. The competition in practice allows Starks and his teammates to improve their skills and transfer their techniques to in-game situations.“I battle with Mason Ford and Lolo Bell ‘cause they are usually guarding me during one-on-ones or best-on-best,” Starks said.

Starks lives for competition, whether it is in practice, scrimmages, or games. He especially looks forward to playing Coweta’s crosstown rival, Wagoner, and always marks the game on his calendar in anticipation of the matchup. When it comes to inspirational figures Starks looks up to Buffalo Bills’ wide receiver Stefon Diggs.“Diggs is my favorite receiver,” Starks said. “And he is really big on family and family is everything to me.” Starks continued on to speak about how much he has appreciated his family for their support throughout his own career “My parents work hard to provide for our family and they never quit!”
