Hi, what are you looking for?

Collinsville

Getting to know Collinsville’s Cyrus Kornegay – Presented by Collinsville Family Pharmacy

VYPE: What teammate has left the biggest impression on you and why?

Cyrus: Landon Bunch. Landon was a grade above me and was always the first person to pick me up if I failed and always the first person to give me a high five after succeeding. Landon has always been there for me throughout my high school baseball journey and I am blessed to have had him as a teammate and a friend.

VYPE: What is your favorite part about being on a team?

Cyrus: My favorite part of being on a team is building relationships with my teammates, the bus rides, and always having your brothers by your side.

VYPE: What has your sport taught you that you use in your daily life?

Cyrus: Baseball has taught me how to deal with success and failure. There will be good and bad days, keep your head up, and always focus on the main goal.

VYPE: Which professional athlete do you look up to and why?

Cyrus: Tom Brady. His love for his sport is unmatched by anyone to ever play the game and he truly shows that age is just a number.

VYPE: Who is your favorite teacher from any grade and why?

Cyrus: Mrs. Vogel, my freshman and sophomore year Spanish teacher. Her class was very tough and challenging, but she was willing to help me anytime.

VYPE: What is your favorite part about representing your high school as an athlete?

Cyrus: My favorite part is truly showing what a Cardinal baseball player is about. Putting others before yourself and always finding a way to accomplish goals the right way.

VYPE: You can pick any place for a summer vacation, where do you go and who do you take with you?

Cyrus: I would go to Nassau, Bahamas and I would take my baseball team.

VYPE: What has been your favorite memory of playing?

Cyrus: My favorite memory is helping my high school team advance to the state tournament by hitting a walk-off home run off the scoreboard my junior year.

VYPE: Here is your chance to give a shoutout or say thank you to anyone you wish.

Cyrus: I want to thank my mom and dad for spending countless hours at games and practices, long drives, and money spent to help me aspire to my dreams as a baseball player. I also want to thank my high school coaches for pushing me every day to not only be a better baseball player but be a better person overall.
