Hi, what are you looking for?

Owasso

Owasso Mom of the Month Kelli Yost – Presented by Code Wiz Owasso

VYPE: Kelli, what are the names and grades of your kid and what activities are they in?

Kelli Yost: My daughter Reagan Yost is in her third year of college at the University of Kansas. When Reagan was in high school, she was a member of the Pride of Owasso.

My son Collin Yost is a senior at OHS and currently a member of the cross country team and baseball team.

VYPE: Tell us what you do as a volunteer with Owasso HS.

KY: As a volunteer with Owasso High School, I typically support the programs that my son is a member of. For cross country our family will volunteer at meets and support the team in various ways. We have hosted team dinners for the athletes on evenings before a race. I have also provided meals for the team summer camps. I am always willing to provide support. My goal as a volunteer is to help the teams be the best they can be. As far as baseball, I work the concession stand and will support any activities that need assistance.

VYPE: What do you enjoy most about volunteering?

KY: What I enjoy the most about volunteering is working with the people involved in the various groups. I enjoy forming relationships with the staff, parents and students. I also like the feeling of helping others and knowing that my contributions will continue to help make these programs successful.

VYPE: Why is it important for parents to be involved in their kid’s activities?

KY: It is important for parents to be involved in their kid’s activities because it shows the kid that you care about what they are going through. With both of my kids being involved in various activities at OHS we have spent a huge amount of time supporting their various activities. I feel that this has provided them with a positive outlook on our relationship. They have a sense that I will always be there for them. No matter the circumstance I will be there to support them. Being at your kids’ activities demonstrates to kids that you have a sense of commitment and teamwork which teaches important life lessons.

VYPE: What do you like most about the Owasso school system?

KY: What I like the most about the Owasso school system is how they provide a wide variety of curriculum and opportunities for the students. There are so many classes and activities that students can find what is best fit for them. Also I like that the community supports and rallies around all the students in any organization.

VYPE: Where did you go to high school?

KY: Arkansas City High School in Arkansas City, Kansas class of 1998

VYPE: What does your family like to do in their free time?

KY: Our Family enjoys playing card games, attending various sporting events, traveling, and spending time outside doing various activities.

VYPE: Are you employed with OPS? If so, what position do you hold?

KY: I am employed with OPS. I am currently a second grade teacher at Ator Elementary. I have taught in Owasso for the last 14 years. I was previously a special education teacher before transitioning into the general education setting.

VYPE: It takes more than one person to help a team. Who are some of the other volunteers that help? KY: Tiffany Nrider has been an essential part of the baseball booster club and Kelly Mangelson does a lot for cross country.
