Ana Zermeno has put in a lot of hard work to get where she is today. But she also says that some words of advice from someone very close to her is what keeps her continuing to work her hardest and be the best she can be.
“My grandpa always told me I had to work for what I want,” she recalled. “It has been tough since he passed away, but everything I do is to make him proud.”
Zermeno is a senior at Daniel Webster High School, where she is a two-sport athlete. As a member of the volleyball team, she is a co-captain playing middle back, while on the soccer team, she also serves as captain and plays defense, midfield, and forward.
Becoming the athlete she is today has not been something that just happened. Instead, the work that Ana has put in has helped her to get better.
“It has taken a lot of work,” she said. “A lot of practice, time, and just trying my hardest. But all the work has been worth it.”
The work that she put in paid off when Ana was a freshman as she was a varsity starter the first year she was eligible.
“Starting on varsity as a freshman was definitely one of the best moments of my career,” she said. “While it showed that I was good enough, I also learned a lot from the girls that I played along with.”
In the classroom, Zermeno was not a big fan of science classes. But, she says, there was one teacher that helped her to appreciate it a little more.
“Mrs. Medina is my favorite teacher,” she said. “She taught her class very well and made sure that we understood everything. She is the one who made me enjoy science better than any other classes. She also interacts well with her students.”
Zermeno is also vice-president for the Webster student council and she also attends Tulsa Tech for Nursing Options. When she is not working on school work or her sports, Ana spends her time in different ways.
“I am a part time supervisor at Marshalls,” she said. “I enjoy watching my brothers and dad play soccer, and go workout with my mom just to spend time with each and every one of them.”
