There are people in everyone’s life that make an impact and help shape us into the person that we became. For some, the role model may be a celebrity or someone famous, while others may look up to someone a little closer to home. Luke Parish says that the biggest influences in his life have been there since day one.
“My parents are my role models,’ he said. “They sacrifice more than even i know to put me in a spot to succeed. My dad is also my favorite teacher. He does a lot of things for me behind the scenes for me that I am not aware of.”
Parish is a junior at Tulsa Edison Preparatory School. He is a multi-sport athlete, playing football, basketball, golf, and track. While he has played football, basketball, and track for most of his life, he started running track when he was in the seventh grade.
While he is working hard to be successful, Parish says he feels that he still has a lot of good things ahead of him.
“I don’t feel that I have necessarily been successful yet,” he said. “But discipline and hard work have helped me get to where I am today.”
During his career, Luke has had some memorable moments, but he says that his favorite moment takes place off of the court.
“The highlight of my career is not a play or a game,” he stated. “It is the joy that I bring my family by playing.”
Edison boys basketball head coach, Michael Parish, says that Luke is a key member of the team.
“Luke will be a three-year starter at point guard for us,” he said. “He is an outstanding all-around player and will play an important role in our success this season.”
Along with playing sports, Luke is also a member of the Hype Club at Edison.
“It is a class where we learn how to make highlight tapes for ourselves and for others. It also helps us to be a little more tech savvy.”
