At the early age of six years old, Layla Drotar picked up a tennis racket for the first time. She knew instantly that she found the sport for her. Since that time, she has grown into a solid tennis player, and she attributes her growth and improvement to the Tucker Tennis Academy. She says that the coaches and instructors there have become like family.

“Somewhat recently I have been working with Georgi Cravero,” she said. “Ever since she started coaching me, she has been like my second mom. She truly cares for me and her other players.  She has taught me how to be a better player on the court by perfecting my forehand, slices and serves. But the best part about Georgi is how she teaches you to be a better human being. From giving you personalized gifts on your birthday to sending you thoughtful texts when you are sick, you always know Georgi has your back.”

Drotar, who is a senior at Cascia Hall Preparatory School, says that tennis has been a sport that she and her family have enjoyed together, and she says she has met some great people during her time with TTA.

“My parents and I started playing tennis at the same time,” she said. “We chose RH91 Tennis Center because they had great junior and adult programs. Then I joined the Tucker Tennis Academy when I was in the eighth grade and it has drastically helped my game ever since. I have enjoyed getting to know all the other players and coaches at my club. RH91 has such a special and supportive environment. I have met my very best friends through my time at TTA.”

While she has put in a lot of work at RH91 with TTA, she also has done some work on her own which she says has been important for her growth. 

“Tennis is a complex sport,” she said. “You need to have good technique, great agility, and be in shape all the time. A Lot of work is done on the court, but even more work is done off the court. I try to stretch, workout, and do cardio in order to be in shape for matches and tournaments.”

After she graduates, Drotar will attend Lafayette College to play tennis and to further her education.
