Owasso’s C.D. White – Athlete Spotlight – Presented By Northeastern State University

Since the age of four, C.D. White has been in love with baseball. Now a member of the Northeastern State RiverHawks baseball program, it’s a relationship that continues to grow. The Owasso High School graduate, who was part of the 2015 state baseball championship for the Rams, began his college career at Cowley County Community College before answering the phone call from NSU coach Jake Hendrick. Their conversation has evolved into another winning opportunity at the plate as well off the baseball field.

“I remember coach Hendrick’s call. He invited me to be a pitcher. I took one look at the lineup of talent and knew I wanted to join the RiverHawks.”

Upon his arrival at Rousey Field, the NSU skipper knew that White was a true game changer.

“One look and you knew, C.D. was going to be more than just a great baseball player,” said Hendrick. “He’s a two-way performer that has now become a fixture at first base as well as with the bat in his hands.”

White has yet to throw a pitch while wearing the green and white NSU number-16 jersey but his “stats with the bat” have been impressive. Last year in 39 games, the 22-year old slugger led the team in hitting with a .340 average while earning second team All-MIAA postseason honors. In the first 42 games this spring, White has raised his average to .365 including 70 base hits while bringing an explosive energy to the dugout as well as on the Tahlequah campus.

“C.D. is just like a magnet. He thrives when challenged and his confidence pulls everyone together,” complimented Hendrick. “His intensity and attitude gets his teammates to embrace the challenge and find a way to win.”

Now the face of the RiverHawks baseball program, White confirms his college experience at NSU has been a “perfect fit.”

“Everyone on campus has been supportive. The instructors want you to succeed and the school spirit and overall environment on campus allows me to stay in the moment and be myself in life as well as in baseball,” emphasized White, who continues to pursue a Business Administration degree. “No matter whether you’re an athlete or a student, there’s no better place than NSU.”
