There is no doubt that teachers make an impact on their students’ lives. While helping them during their educational journey, the impact that the teacher makes can go well beyond the classroom. Addie Coon says that one of her teachers has been there for her and helped her along the way.
“Danny Limes is a teacher and coach who has impacted my life,” she said. “Some days I would go into his classroom and we would sit and talk for a whole class period, just to catch up on life and have a couple laughs together. During one of my basketball games, my shots were not falling and as I was going into the locker room at half time, he told me what I could do to help get my shot back on the right track. After halftime I went back out for a couple practice shots and that night, I finished with scoring one of my highest scoring games. He’s always had my back and he is someone I am very thankful for.”
Addie Coon is a senior at Berryhill High School, where she plays both softball and basketball. She is also a member of the student council, Native Club, and the National Honor Society at Berryhill. Away from school, she attends Carbondale Assembly of God, plays competitive softball, and does acts of community service.
Whether she is on the field or court, in the classroom, or around town, Addie says that being someone that others can look up to is important to her.
“It’s extremely important to me to always set a good example and be a good role model for the younger athletes,” she said. “I try to conduct myself in a positive manner at all times both on and off the field. I strive to make good grades, participate in various activities, and be visible in a positive light.”
Giving the right amount of time to the different areas of her life are important, but Addie knows what is the most important.
“Balancing life, school, and athletics can be a challenge at times but I have learned to prioritize what’s important at the time. Academics comes first, because if I don’t make the grades then I won’t be playing or spending time with friends.”
