Coweta Basketball Spotlight – Macee Matthews – Presented by Excel Therapy

Athletes put in a lot of hard work throughout their careers in hopes growing and continually getting better. When they are able to see all that hard work pay off, it is a moment that will stick with them for quite some time.

Macee Matthews is a sophomore at Coweta High School and says that her biggest moment happened last season.

“The highlight of my career so far was getting my first college offer during my freshman year,” she said. “It was really exciting to get that and it gave me more motivation to work harder.”

Working hard is something that Macee does not shy away from and part of that reason is because of the people that have influenced her.

“My parents are my biggest influences,” she said. “My dad was born with only one hand. He does not let that affect the way he goes about life. There isn’t anything he can’t do that another person can. He’s taught me not to let anything get in my way and to always dream big because anything is possible. My two trainers, Josh Jackson and Keenan Curry, are also big influences in my life. They push me every day to be better than I was yesterday. In the short amount of time I’ve been training with them, I’ve learned so much from them. Not only have they helped me in basketball, but also in life.”

Along with enjoying playing basketball, Matthews has another reason she loves playing.

“I love representing the town of Coweta,” she said. “I want to let the younger girls know that you can achieve your goals if you work hard.”

The success that Macee has experienced has not come without a fair share of tough work and effort.

“It’s taken me hours and hours of time in the gym with Keenan,” she said. “And countless days lifting and doing speed and agility drills with Josh. Along with a lot of intense practices with coach Allison and coach Amber.”

Matthews is seeing the rewards of all of that work. She currently has five DII offers and is receiving interest from a DI school.
