Chris Mason is a standout basketball player for the Victory Christian Conquerors. While he has good size, he says that it takes more than just that to be successful on the court. You have to be willing to invest something to get something out of it.
“It takes a lot of hard work,” he said. “Especially when I don’t want to work. That is when it counts the most.”
As a junior, Mason plays forward and center for the Conquerors basketball team. He says that he has seen a lot of growth in himself on and off the court and he owes a lot of thanks to a couple of people for helping him along the way.
“One of the bigger influences in life is my girlfriend, Laci Scott,” he said. “She helps me grow closer to God every day and has helped me change my mindset tremendously. On the basketball court, it has to be Kobe because of his mindset. I want to work like him. And in the classroom, it would be my United States History teacher Mr. Doudican. He always has the best mood and he is always there to just talk to.”
During his basketball career, Mason has made some memorable moments while competing on the hardwood. But he says that there is one time in particular that stands out as his favorite.
“My highlight moment would probably have to be the first time I dunked on someone,” he recalled. “It was amazing. I felt like I was Vince Carter.”
Ryan Wakely is the head coach of the Victory Christian boy’s basketball team and he says that Chris brings a lot to the team.
“He is a high-end competitor that is very talented,” Wakely said. “I have no doubt that he will go on to play at the collegiate level after high school.”
Whether he is on the court, in the classroom, or just living life, Mason has some advice that he always keeps in his memory.
“I always remember that throughout every struggle or good season, God has everything in control so don’t stress. Give it to Him.”
