Bishop Kelley’s Peyton Coburn – Athlete Spotlight – Presented By Corey Else- National Scouting Report

By Scott Metz

Bishop Kelley High School junior Peyton Coburn has a passion for golf. As a first-bag position player, Peyton is a dedicated athlete.

Peyton stated, “I love representing my school when I play. It is always fun to travel with the girls and be able to wear the Bishop Kelley logo. I think my team would agree we play for a community of little girls all around the world playing golf. Women’s golf is not always the most validated sport but our goal is to show them that golf is a wonderful experience and has so much to offer them.”

In terms of a favorite memory of playing golf for Bishop Kelley thus far, Peyton accounted, “I shot 3 under par at a Texas Junior Golf Tour Tournament this January. Everything was going well that day, it felt like my game was in sync, nothing is better than that.”

Peyton looks to her family as role models. Peyton stated, “My parents are my biggest role models, they believe in me wholeheartedly and are my biggest supporters.”

When it comes to Peyton’s favorite teacher, she did not hesitate, when she stated, “My favorite teacher is Mrs. Pollard. She is always ready to cheer me on and ask me how everything is going, whether it is in golf, school, my faith, or just life in general.”

While considered a sport that focuses on the individual and skill. Peyton, proclaimed, “In golf, I try more to focus on beating the course. My favorite course to beat would be Earlywine in Oklahoma City. It is one of the more challenging public courses, and it was the first course I shot even par at in an Oklahoma Junior Golf Tour Tournament.”

Off of the golf course, Peyton is very involved at her school. Peyton explained, “I am the President of Podcast Club, a member of the Athletic Leadership Council, a member of the National Honor Society, and have been a commentator for football games with BK Media Club.”

She is eyeing competing at the next level and is working with National Scouting Report to help her achieve her goal.

“NSR has helped me tremendously in making connections with schools across the country. Recruiting is always stressful for everyone, but I feel good about my process, nothing official yet but excited to see how it all plays out.”
