Kate Reid will play a big role in 2023 as a junior for the Collinsville fastpitch softball team.
Reid can play a number of positions on all levels of the field. But her primary goal this season is to be better as a leader, although she does have some personal numbers she wants to reach for herself.
“My personal goal this year is to be the best leader and teammate I can be,” Reid said. “My performance goal would be to hit over .450 this season. My goal for the team this year is to see all my teammates be personally successful and to win regionals.”
Her head coach, Kylee Cole, says she’s indispensable with everything she’s able to do.
“Kate has the ability to fill any role asked of her. No matter where she is on the field, there is never a doubt that she will get the job done,” Cole said. “Her strong drive to be successful paired with her talent and athleticism makes her a must have on our roster.”
Reid’s most cherished time of her softball career came during a stint in the pitcher’s circle last year when she tossed a perfect game.
Also a basketball standout who earned all-conference honorable mention honors, Reid hit over .400 and had a fielding percentage of over .950 as a freshman for the Cardinals. She was named an all-district utility player as both a freshman and sophomore. She’s also a member of the National Honor Society.
“Personally, I feel like I have grown as a teammate and a leader,” Reid said. “I’ve also been working hard in the offseason in the circle and hope to see my improvements this season.
“I am looking forward to spending time with my teammates. We will have a young team this year and I’m excited to see how we grow.”
Reid has her post-high school career already mapped out.
“My future plans for after high school would be to go to college and play softball and major in physical therapy,” she said. “After college, I plan to become a physical therapist and start a family.”
