&A with Sand Springs’ Morgan Rector

VYPE: What goals do you have for this year?

Morgan: A big team goal we have is to win regionals and make it to state. It’s been a few years since our program has made it there, and we strongly feel like this group has the capability to do it. A personal goal of mine is to receive an academic scholarship that pays for most of college.

VYPE: What has your sport taught you that you use in your daily life?

Morgan: Softball has taught me a lot about facing adversity and how to overcome it. It’s also taught me that hard work pays off and to never quit, which are lessons I use on and off the field.

VYPE: Who is your favorite teacher from any grade and why?

Morgan: Mr. Brown has been my math teacher since sophomore year and is my favorite teacher. We have a lot of fun in his class and he’s always there to help us when we need it.

VYPE: Who inspires you and why?

Morgan: My mom is my biggest supporter and inspires me the most. She’s been through a lot in life but still wakes up each day with a positive, hardworking mindset. She never quits and she fights for the people she loves.

VYPE: What teammate has left the biggest impression on you and why?

Morgan: Olivia Alexander, who graduated last year, has left the biggest impression on me. She’s been there for me in a way no one else has and she’s such a bubbly, fun person.

VYPE: What is your favorite part about being on a team?

Morgan: My favorite part about being on a team is the friendships I’ve made. These girls are my best friends who will always be a part of my life.

VYPE: Who in your family is the best athlete? Explain.

Morgan: I come from a very athletic family, but I think the best athlete would have to be my dad. He played baseball and basketball while growing up and still workouts daily.

VYPE: What’s one sport you wish you could play that you don’t already play?

Morgan: If I could play any sport besides softball, it would probably be basketball. I played basketball my whole life up until freshman year, and I miss it quite a bit.

VYPE: What’s your go-to pregame song?

Morgan: My go-to pregame song is anything by Drake.
