Bixby’s Kordell Gouldsby Athlete Spotlight Presented by Fieldhouse Apparel

Kordell Gouldsby has one simple goal for this year.

The Bixby standout wants what has been routine for the football program – another state championship.

“My goal, personally and for the team, is to defend the 6A-I state championship,” the senior said.

The Spartans have been nothing short of dominant over the years, winning eight state titles since 2014. They claimed their first championship in their first appearance on the 6A-I level last season.

Gouldsby was the Spartans’ most dynamic playmaker on offense, both as a running back and a receiver, through the first two weeks of the 2023 season. In Bixby’s 42-16 season-opening win over Owasso, he finished with 167 rushing yards on just five carries and had a 75-yard TD run. He also had a 20-yard reception against the Rams, and the following week against Har-Ber (Springdale, Ark.), he had a 25-yard touchdown run.

As a junior last year, the VYPE Top 100 selection had a team-high 53 receptions for 653 yards and six touchdowns. He rushed for 138 yards on 17 carries with four TDs.

Taking on more of a leadership role was Gouldsby’s primary focus going into 2023.

“My leadership skills were my biggest improvements going into the season,” he said. “Being able to step into an unfamiliar role and show up for my teammates everyday.”

Gouldsby isn’t lacking in confidence with his abilities. He has his eyes set on the college football landscape, and even beyond.

“After high school I will be playing college football and preparing myself for the NFL draft,” he said.

Family support has been important in his development process.

“My family is my biggest influence. The support I’ve received throughout my career has been second to none. Definitely a motivation factor that allows me to be successful,” said Gouldsby, who recalls a front flip he pulled off in the end zone as a freshman as his top moment.

“I was inspired by Madden,” he said of the front flip.
