Bixby’s Kayden Depew – FFA Spotlight – Presented by: Stewart Martin Kubota

There are a variety of programs that are available to high school students, depending on their interests and strengths. Bixby’s Kayden Depew is part of the Future Farmers of America program, and while he did not plan to join, he says he is glad that he did.

“Joining FFA was a complete accident honestly,” Depew said. “But I can undoubtedly say that it was the best thing that happened to me. I don’t know where I would be without this program.”

A sophomore at Bixby High School, Kayden judges livestock along with helping plan all events in the program. He also plans to show a goat during the next show season.

Depew has made a lot of memories as a member of the FFA and there are a few that stand out as his favorite.

“During the three years that I have been in FFA, my favorite thing has to be the annual FFA banquet,” he said. “Seeing all the people get their awards and having a lot of fun is one of the best experiences that I’ve had in the program. Being able to represent the FFA and Bixby makes me feel accomplished because I am able to show everyone that our FFA program is the best place to be. Also, we have a great community and friends to meet while you are here.”

Throughout his life, there have been people that have influenced Depew’s life, but he has one person that has made the biggest impact.

“The role model for my life is my dad,” he said. “He has shown me that working hard will take you farther in life than anything else ever will.”

Brandon Sellers is the FFA sponsor at Bixby. He says that Kaden is a great example to those around him.

“Kaden is a very hard working young man,” Sellers said. “He is always willing to help with whatever the FFA Chapter needs or its students need.”
