Collinsville High School
Payton Jones is a junior at Collinsville High School where she is a member of the varsity basketball team. Jones, a guard for head coach Janson Hightower, said she loves being part of this team and competing with her teammates.
“What I love most about my teammates is the bond we all have. I’ve met some of my best friends from being a part of this team,” said Jones.
Representing Collinsville High School is something everyone on the team is proud to do. For Jones, being a student-athlete at CHS is special thanks to the support they receive.
“What I love most about being a student-athlete at Collinsville is the support we have from coaches and teachers,” said Jones.
This season the Lady Cardinals are focused on getting better with every practice and game, which could eventually mean the team has worked their way into post-season play.
“The goal for this season is to get better as a team, and, as always, is to make it to the state tournament. The team is coming together well considering we’ve had some big changes this year. We obviously have much to improve on, as most teams do, but as a whole we seem to be heading in the right direction,” said Jones.
Away from sports, Jones is a member of National Honor Society and STUCO. She also competes with the varsity cheer team. In the classroom, Jones said she has her favorites, but enjoys all of her classes.
“My favorite subject in school would be English, and I have two favorite teachers Coach Herald and Ms. Sonnenfeld,” said Jones.
The future class of 2025 graduate said she is looking forward to a future that includes attending college.
“After I graduate, I would love to attend college and attend PT school,” said Jones.
When she does have some free time, Jones said you can usually find her hanging out with family and friends.
