Coming into the 2022 season head coach Meghann Kannett knew she wanted to build on the success of 2021 and their state tournament appearance. After dropping a close match to Bishop Kelley, coach Kannett refocused and is ready to see what this group can accomplish.
“Owasso is returning six starters from last year’s team, and we look to pick up where they left off last year and making a run at state,” said coach Kannett.
One of those starters from that state tournament team is Kirsten Harper. Harper is the returning libero and the team captain, as coach Kannett said, “leading from the back row.”
Harper thrives in the leadership role and is looking forward to working with the underclassmen and helping her team to another state tournament.
“I love being someone the underclassmen can look up to for guidance in volleyball or help in any area of their life. I am so thankful for the opportunity to be a captain because it means I am the first person my team looks to. It makes me so happy when a teammate trusts me to help them,” said Harper. “The volleyball team is like a family. We are constantly spending time together outside of school and sports. Everyone loves each other’s company and I love being able to lean on them for anything.”
Carley Butler is another player to watch this season. Butler is a three-year starter and someone you may see play at the next level. Butler will patrol the middle and is an excellent player at the net.
The roster is loaded with talent that coach Kannett is excited to have this season.
With a tough schedule ahead, the Lady Rams are geared up and ready for a long season with it coming to a close on October 6th at Bartlesville.
