Owasso High School’s Andre Young still coming down from representing the Rams and the e-Sports team at the state competition where he went deep into the finals.
“It felt really great! Going against so many different people and going versus their playstyle was such a great experience for me and considering I made it deep in the state finals. I’ve learned a bunch and changed my playstyle because of it. I hope to go to more of these like this,” said Young.
Competing is something Young loves to do and he plans to continue to compete outside of school and the team at Owasso.
“I try to compete out of school tournaments. I usually go to a place called Contender in Tulsa. I’ve gone to a few tournaments there as well, and of course I enjoy playing SSBU, but I also enjoy playing Dragon Ball Fighter Z, Xenoverse 2, and Fortnite,” said Young.
As a member of the e-Sports team at Owasso has created many memorable moments for Young and his teammates.
“I’ve enjoyed sharing the moments of being at tournaments with my friends and seeing them and myself improve and get better at the game, it’s truly a pleasant sight to see,” said Young. “My favorite moment for competing for Owasso was when I went to a crew battle with my team, and I had to go versus my own school to qualify. I ended up coming back and defeating all three of them. It was very hyped, but I did feel bad for kicking their butts.”
Young will be a senior next year and he believes the popularity of e-Sports will continue to grow.
“I believe it will get popular. I know a lot of people will try and get in there. The e-Sports team has brought more people in to play. I’ve made more friends because of it. It’s really nice. I mainly look forward to the tournaments with them, seeing if I can go further every time I compete and seeing if my teammates do well,” said Young.
