Entering the 2023-24 season, one of the area’s top players, Makenna Yokley, is focused on not just helping her team win, but making this a great year in her final season as a Lady Ram. Yokley said she is proud to be a student-athlete at Owasso High School.
“One thing I love about being a student-athlete at Owasso is the support from our fellow athletic teams and community. It makes me extremely proud to have the opportunities to represent my school,” said Yokley.
As a junior, Yokley averaged 15 points and 8.0 rebounds a game and was the team MVP from her forward position.
“The thing I love most about my teammates is their dedication to the team and our shared goal as well as their investment in each-other. We try to pick each-other up on and off the court, and I am blessed to play with such a supportive group. Our goal for this season is to make it to state. Owasso has not been to the state tournament since Owasso won in 2018. We are working hard in practice to make sure we get there,” said Yokley.
Several teammates have impressed Yokley, and she is confident the team is coming together with great chemistry on and off the court.
“The team is coming together really great. We’ve had a few scrimmages and that’s helped us with our offense and chemistry, and things are really starting to gel before the start of season. I think we are going to surprise a lot of people this season,” said Yokley.
In the classroom, Yokley said it’s not easy to pick a favorite subject or teacher, but she narrowed down her list to two.
“My favorite subject is English, but I took a sports medicine class last year and loved it. My teacher, Mrs. Patterson was amazing, and I learned a ton from her,” said Yokley.
After graduation Yokley plans to attend Missouri Southern State University to continue her athletic and academic career, majoring in kinesiology. In her free time, Yokley said she enjoys hanging out with friends, watching basketball, football and traveling.
