BOYS
Coach: Zac Briscoe
20-21 Record: 11-13
Head coach Zac Briscoe is excited to get his young core of players back on the basketball court after a deep playoff run in the Class 2A Area tournament last season. The Eagles return a group of freshmen and sophomores from last season that will use the experience from the deep playoff run as the foundation for this season. Rejoice is eager for another state championship after COVID-19 cost the Eagles back-to-back state titles. With the season right around the corner leading scorer, Gabe Patterson (6-2) who averaged 11.8 points, 4.8 rebounds, 2.1 assists, and 1.3 steals per game, is eager to lead his teammates again this upcoming season. The Eagles will need to get contributions from 6-foot-3 forward Chance Wilson who averaged 10.1 points, 3.8 rebounds, 2.3 assists, and 1.6 steals while point guard Jaron Foote (5-8) averaged 6.0 points, and 3.7 assists. Guard Solomon Morton (5-8) is ready to get back to playing after sitting out due to transfer rules last season. Coach Briscoe said, “we’re hoping our guys can make it out of football healthy to make a deep run at a Class 3A state title this season.”
GIRLS
Coach: Paige Wadley
20-21 Record: 10-13
Head coach Paige Wadley returns what she calls a “good mix of young and upperclassman player.” That group includes Lexi Henson (5-6, Jr.) at point guard. Henson averaged 10 points last season and brings great court vision, a nice jump shot and a quick release on the three-pointer. “We will be quicker and look to run the floor more,” said coach Wadley. Henson will start at point guard while Kristin Limerick (5-11, Jr.) will play power forward. Limerick accounted for 7.0 points a game last year before an injury sidelined her. She beings a strong presence in the paint and finished around the rim. Limerick can also hit from outside. Lilli Cavanaugh (5-11, Sr.) is another physical player who rebounds well and can disrupt with her play on defense. Sarah England (5-7, Sr.) can shoot the three and is a great passer. Other players to watch include Laynie Molini (5-6, Fr.), Abby Dalton (5-6, Fr.), Kasia Hass (5-11, So.) and Liz Price (5-9, Sr.). All four players are young but expect to see some time this year. Price averaged 7.0 points last year and is a consistent player. She is very physical and aggressive with the ability to score from anywhere on the court.
