Alexa Hill, a Rejoice Christian School senior, hasn’t stopped cheering since she was 4 years old.
“I was shy when I was younger,” Hill admits, “so I would say the biggest challenge for me was getting in front of people to perform. The older I get, the more I came out of my shell and developed a love for performing in front of people! Now my favorite thing to do is getting to perform halftime routines or other performances. Learning and remembering the material has always come very easy to me thankfully!”
Hill played “every sport there is” growing up, but once she graduated to high school, she knew she had to specialize in her favorite sport to balance academics. It was a no-brainer to pick cheer.
“I would say my favorite aspect of cheering is performing with my team,” Hill said. “I love learning new material, showing school spirit and then performing at games and pep rallies!”
Hill also participates in her church’s youth group on Wednesday night and enjoys spending quality time with her friends and family, especially at the lake. She’s also developed quite a passion for mentorship.
“One of my favorite things during my cheerleading experience was working the elementary cheer camps each year. My two favorite things are cheering and working with kids,” Hill said. “I can’t wait to take what I’ve learned and apply it in my career of working with kids in some way! I would also love to coach cheer some day!”
Hill will attend Oklahoma State University this fall. She has not yet decided on a major, but nursing and elementary education are both on the table.
“I am so glad to have been a part of Rejoice cheer and proud of how far we’ve come since my freshman year, and I hope the program continues to grow,” Hill said.
