Track & Golf Athlete Isela Lopez Talks FFA – Presented by Hopkins Funeral Service

Isela Lopez first got involved in FFA when she was in junior high. What she didn’t know is how much she was going to enjoy being a member of the Skiatook chapter.

“I didn’t know my world soon was going to revolve around this organization. Our past State Northeast Area VP, Garrett Case got me involved by encouraging me to try out our speech team,” said Lopez.

From there, Lopez branched out and started to try new things.

“I enjoy all the unique opportunities we get to experience as well as making new friends and catching up with old ones. I’ve been involved in livestock judging, vet science, speech, opening and closing ceremonies, greenhand quiz, and livestock show team! I show goats,” said Lopez.

Aside from FFA, Lopez is a member of the track and golf teams as well as the team manager for the boy’s basketball team. Lopez said she loves her teammates and the support she gets from everyone.

“I love most about my teammates is that they push me every day to put in what I want to get out of practice,” said Lopez.

Lopez would like to continue her education at Oklahoma State University once she graduates from SHS. She said FFA and Clara Duncan have made a big impact in her life.

“The biggest influence in my life has been my mom and our 23-24 past state FFA reporter, Clara Duncan. They both pushed me to the best person I could be. They both taught me it’s okay not to win and just have fun and try my best. They have never given up on me no matter what as well as supporting me through everything. Clara specifically helped me at Alumni Leadership Camp by listening to me and allowing me to cry in her arms. My mom specifically has helped me with speeches and my CDE,” said Lopez.

Her advice to anyone curious about FFA?

“I would tell them to say yes to any chance and run with it! Because you might not get another chance to experience this. You’ve got nothing to lose so just go and try your best and have fun,” said Lopez.
