Once a student reaches their high school years, they start to think about what they want to do with their future. For those that already have a good idea of what they want, Tulsa Tech has a number of programs that can give them a glimpse of what they would be doing. For Angel ‘Bobby’ Martinez, his interest in law enforcement led him to the Criminal Justice program.
“For my program, we have two instructors and both of them are former police officers and have experience in it,” he said. “You learn the law, how dispatch works, and defensive tactics. We have fitness included in our program as well so it’s training for what the real training will be once we enroll in it.”
Martinez was first introduced to Tulsa Tech by a friend that was already attending. Once he saw the programs offered, he knew that it was for him.
“I heard about tech because my friend, Eric, who I was really close with was enrolled in the welding program,” Angel said. “He would talk about not only how great the welding program was but Tulsa Tech in general. I saw there was a criminal justice class and I knew that had a correlation to law enforcement so decided to apply.”
With such a wide range of programs offered, Martinez has no problem recommending Tulsa Tech to someone that is interested.
“I would say that it is a great thing to apply for if you want early training in a career,” he said. “There are so many programs that tech offers like cosmetology, aerospace, mechanic, any kind of major job they have to offer and it’s great.”
Angel is a senior at East Central High School and is a member of the soccer team. He says that he enjoys playing soccer for a few different reasons.
“One thing that I love the most about competing is trying my absolute hardest to win,” he stated. “Probably my most memorable moment so far would be making the soccer team after not making two years in a row.”
