Throughout an athlete’s playing career, there are moments that stick out for a number of reasons. It could be winning a championship or making a key play or even just something fun they did as a team. Jaycee Davis has a favorite memory and it took place on the basketball court.
“The highlight of my career would have to be when I was playing basketball as a sophomore,” she recalled. “We were down by over twenty points and the five starters from our team were not in and my other teammates and I came back and won the game by two points. It was a great feeling and it showed how well we played together as a team.”
Davis is a junior at Edison Preparatory School, where she plays basketball, is a member of the cheer team, and runs track. Away from sports, she is a member of the Business Professionals of America and also Leadership.
Davis has invested a lot in order to be the athlete that she is today. She says that one of the biggest things is making sacrifices.
“It’s taken a lot of time and work for me,” she said. “Meaning no days off and sometimes even missing events that I really want to go to.”
Something else that has helped Jaycee grow as an athlete is working with her teammates.
“The person I like to go up against in practice is Kymree,” she said. “She doesn’t take it easy on me and helps me get better defensively. I think one of the underrated players on our team is Zariah. She is a sophomore and she doesn’t know much about what a team is like in high school so she’s still trying to catch up.”
Davis and her teammates play a number of different teams throughout the season. But she says that there is one team that she enjoys getting the win against the most.
“It would have to be East Central,” she said. “We’re both able to match up and it takes teamwork and being able to finish at the rim.”
