EDISON EAGLES
Coach: ROBERT BORGSTADT
4-6
OFFENSE
Edison, entering its third year under head coach Robert Borgstadt, looks to make a jump and get into the playoffs. The Eagles have a new offensive coordinator in Josh Smith, who brings a lot of experience and an offense that will force defenses to defend the whole field. Wide Receiver Corey Rowland (6-0, 190, Sr.) and tight end Kaiden Jones (6-3, 235, Sr.) will receive a lot of attention and will play key roles in the offense. Rowland had 52 receptions for 1,054 yards and 12 touchdowns in 2022 and has an offer from UNLV. Both Rowland and Jones will be big factors on defense as well. Braddox Broughton will be counted on to guide the spread offense from behind center as a freshman but has a lot of potential according to his head coach. “Braddox is a young QB with a great arm and has a very high football IQ. He will push for playing time as a freshman and will have a great high school career. If Braddox reaches his potential, he will leave Edison with all of the school passing records.,” Borgstadt said. Edison returns seven starters on the offensive side of the ball. Others who will contribute are running back Cash Bryant (5-11, 180, Jr.), wide receiver Jhett Brown (6-3, 185, Jr.) and offensive lineman Tyler Nash (6-0, 290, Sr.).
DEFENSE
The Eagles will also be experienced on defense with six returning starters and nine players who had significant playing time last season. “The defense returns nine players who saw a lot of playing time last year and looks to take that next step forward,” Borgstadt said. Kaiden Jones recorded 40 tackles, seven sacks, eight tackles for losses and forced two fumbles as a junior defensive end. Rowland will be the leader in the secondary at safety. Edison, who will be guided by defensive coordinator Chris Girdner, will use a multiple front that moves and creates confusion for opposing offenses. Kohli Alexander (6-1, 255, Jr.) will be a key piece at defensive end, and juniors Makari Alexander (6-2, 185) and London Labbe (5-10, 175) will contribute in the Eagles’ secondary. “We are a multiple front defense that creates confusion and puts pressure on opposing offenses,” Borgstadt said.
