MEMORIAL CHARGERS
Coach: BRANDON COONS
1-9
OFFENSE
In his first season as head coach of the Memorial Chargers, Brandon Coons said the excitement level around the football program is building thanks to the hard work being put in by the coaches and players this offseason. “I am very optimistic about the upcoming season. These young men have been working extremely hard to get stronger, to raise
the football IQ, and to help cultivate a more positive football culture here at Tulsa Memorial,” said coach Coons. Three starters return on offense meaning there are several position battles taking place. One spot that appears to be locked up is at running back with Johnie Caldwell (5-9, 170, Sr.). Caldwell rushed for 1,189 yards and 11 touchdowns last year. Caldwell is a two-time state qualifier in track and is expected to have another big year. Seth Friday (5-9, 160, Sr.) is a slot receiver with tremendous speed off the line. He can stretch a defense and make receptions across the middle. The offensive line features Josiah Hudson (6-0, 220, Sr.) and Davion Escoe (6-2, 240, Sr.). Both players will likely see time on defense as well. Keondre Conway (6-3, 240, Sr.) is a big tight end who can be a factor in the passing game and block in the run game. Marques Chambers (5-8, 165, Sr.) is another speedy receiver with big play capabilities.
DEFENSE
Four starters are back on defense and many of the names you see on offense will occupy positions defensively. Hudson and Escoe will likely start on the defensive line with Conway playing linebacker. In the 3-4 zone the Chargers will run look for Caldwell to play safety with Friday. Chambers could start at corner giving the Chargers one of the quickest secondary squads in the class. Donnell Dabney (So.) is a young and exciting talent coach Coons is excited to see develop. Dabney started every game as a freshman and could have a breakout season in 2023. The coaching staff consists of Parker Coons, Keith Hanson, Jaylon Alexander, Kaylor Pearson, and Johnie Caldwell Sr.
