Nathan Hale High School Freshman Sh’Kyra Jackson goes the distance, literally, in every Track and Field match she participates in. As a sprinter, Sh’Kyra runs in the 100 Meter and 200 Meter dash.
In terms of what motivates Sh’Kyra, she stated, “Knowing how much more I want in life is what motivates me the most.”
When it comes to a person that has had the biggest impact on her life, Sh’Kyra looks towards her coach. “Coach B has had the biggest impact on my life so far. When I had no one else’s shoulder to lean on, I had his. He motivates me to do better not only on the track but also in school. Coach B has spoken really wise words to me, which sort of caused my whole perspective on life to change.”
Track and Field is more than seeing individuals succeed; it is a team effort. Sh’Kyra had the following to say about her team, “I enjoy working with Kalani the most. Since the first day of practice, she has always pushed me over my limits. When I am in pain or need help learning something, she is always there to help me out, and I really appreciate her.”
The highlight of her Track and Field career thus far involves personal performance. Sh’Kyra stated, “My ability to adapt and make the necessary adjustments in my running style has been a highlight.”
For the NCAA and professional athletes Sh’Kyra looks up the most, Sh’Kyra stated, “For my favorite NCAA athlete, I would say Coastal Carolina University track and field sprinter Melissa Jefferson. For professional athletes, I look up to Olympian Usain Bolt. Both athletes represent what I am trying to accomplish in Track & Field.
Sh’Kyra has a determined spirit, and is proud to run track for Nathan Hale High School. “I love the fact that our athletics are bringing a positive outlook to our school. I consider it an honor to be recognized by my school and those who follow and support us.”
