Success for an athlete can be a wide range of things. For some, it can be just completing a full season while others do not feel successful until they are hoisting a championship trophy. No matter what their definition of success is, it takes time and a lot of work in order to reach the goals you have set for yourself.
Quavy Jackson is a junior at Daniel Webster High School. As a wrestler and a basketball player, he knows what it takes to be his best and he says that it takes more than just physical work.
“You have to have no fear in the game you play,” he said. “You’ve got to have a love for the game.”
Throughout his life, Jackson has had a number of people that have influenced his life and helped shape him into the person that he is today.
“My dad and my big brother are definitely the biggest role models for me,” he said. “They have been really good guys to look up to. Also, my seventh-grade English teacher, Ms. Dorsey would have to be my favorite teacher.”
He also says that he has some outstanding teammates. And there is one that he enjoys going up against in practice and that helped him grow as an athlete.
“Jose Cruz is probably the guy I like going up against in practice,” Jackson said. “He makes me work and does not let up. I really feel like that helps me to be a better athlete.”
Quavy enjoys playing for the Warriors and being a representation for his school and community whenever he steps out to compete.
“It means more than most people would think,” he said. “I want to be able to do a lot for this program while I am here.”
Wherever Quavy is not competing or practicing, he is checking his social media. He has one account he likes to follow the most.
“I would have to say that ESPN is my favorite follow,” he said. That is where I see everything I need.”
