Berryhill’s Addie Coon – Athlete spotlight presented by Excel Therapy

By Derrick Smith

Throughout the span of an athlete’s career they can experience a lot of great moments with their teammates, both on and off the field. From winning a championship to a team bonding outing, these experiences are things that can last for a long time.

Addie Coon is a junior at Berryhill High School and she says that playing sports has allowed her to grow a lot of relationships.

“The highlight moment of my career has been making and building friendships,” she said. “I wouldn’t be the athlete I am today without my teammates throughout these years. I will never take for granted the relationships I have with these girls and am very thankful that basketball and softball have given me life-long friendships.”

Addie plays both softball and basketball for Berryhill. She knows that it has taken a lot of work for her to get to where she is today, but she says that she could not do it alone.

“It has taken a lot of time and dedication to be successful in sports,” she said. “Putting in work every day leads to many great opportunities that I have wanted to achieve ever since I was a little kid. The motivation to keep working comes from my coaches. They set goals for me that are challenging, and they believe in me to get the job done. They push me every day to not only become a better player, but also a better person. Their standards for me are high and the last thing I would ever want to do is let them down which motivates me to become stronger.”

She has earned various honors while playing. She has been named Class 4A All-District Outfielder and Tulsa Seven Conference Tournament Outstanding Defensive Player. When she is not competing, she volunteers at a local food bank and helps out with the sports programs for younger kids. She is also a concurrent student taking classes at Tulsa Community College.

Whenever she steps on the field or the court, playing hard and winning are her two goals. The team that she and her teammates are playing against does not matter to Coon.

“A win is a win,” she said. “There really isn’t anyone opponent that I enjoy beating. I strive to win every game that I play, and I respect every opponent.”
