Cascia Hall varsity cheer coach Michelle Capps has fostered a renewed interest in the cheer program and now she is seeing an increase in the total number of student-athletes wanting to be part of the cheer team. For Capps, the increase in numbers is a good sign, but it also means to step up from last season.
“Cascia Hall varsity cheer is officially a medium squad for the 2021-2022 school year. We had a huge interest in varsity cheer tryouts this season, so we’re excited to grow our program from last year’s squad of 13 to a squad of 20,” said coach Capps.
With new faces on the team the need for senior leadership has been filled by captain Zoe Barkett and co-captain Demi David.
“Zoe Barkett is Cascia’s senior cheer captain, a four-year varsity cheerleader, an NCA high school national champion and a shining example of a true leader on and off the sidelines,” said coach Capps.
Both Barkett and David have the squad mentally ready for a long season that will likely include competing at state game day regionals on November 6th. Last year the Cascia Hall squad competed in and placed second in the 2020 Game Day State Championship. The difference was two points and for the cheerleaders coming back who remember that day, it has fueled them to push even harder. This year’s squad will consist of; seniors Zoe Barkett, Demi David, Kaylee Do, Elena Stinchcomb, juniors Linley Griffin, Rozlynn Susman (Jr. Captain), sophomores Edee Barkett, Margaux Felty, Gabrielle Ramsey, Cali Stephens, Ava Wynn, and freshmen Kennedy Bass, Braley Hix, Neely Holley, Olivia Hulver, Olivia Lai, Lauren Pereira, Saxon Pounds, London Siegfried, Camryn Whitledge. Taylor Grounds is the cheer sponsor.
