The Cardinals defeated Skiatook 49-7 on September 11th. The 42-point margin was the biggest win for the Cardinals in the 98 meetings between the schools. 

Quarterback Andrew Carney combined for 389 yards of offense and all six Cardinals touchdowns in the 41-24 quarterfinals win over Guthrie.

OFFENSE

A semifinalist team in 2020, the Cardinals are back for revenge. Collinsville made it to the state semifinals, where they were defeated by Carl Albert, who would go on to win the state championship. “If we are fortunate enough to stay healthy as we did last season, we will have a chance to get back to the finals,” head coach Kevin Jones said. Collinsville has played in one state championship and looks to make it another next season. Collinsville has the talent, and at this point it is just a matter of putting it all together with their main pieces and younger players who are going to have to step up in the upcoming season. The Cardinals offense returns seven starters in the upcoming season, including standout dual threat quarterback Andrew Carney (6-1, 200, Sr.). Carney had a historic junior season Collinsville, recording over 3,000 total yards and 50 touchdowns. Carney hardly ever turns the ball over, only having two last season, both being interceptions in the semifinals against Carl Albert. Carney is being recruited by numerous division two programs, and even division one Air Force. Collinsville looks to operate a no huddle offense, creating multiple speeds during games. They look to run a 60/40 (run/pass percentage). The Cardinals averaged nearly 49 points per game, one of the reasons they made it so deep in the playoffs. 

DEFENSE

Not only was the Cardinals offense electrifying, but they can also light it up on defense. The 2020 team only gave up 19 points per game, and returns four starters including standout Oscar Hammond (6-4, 200, Sr.). Hammond had 51 tackles, three interceptions (one for a touchdown), and three fumble recoveries (one for a touchdown). Coach Jones has high praise for Hammond as well. “He pays incredibly close attention to detail and strives to get better every day. Oscar is also arguably the hardest worker on our football team, which is really saying something. Look out for No. 11,” Jones said. The defense may have some new faces, but Cardinal fans, and even people around the state, should still know that this will be a very strong defense.
