Taylor Motes is an athlete at Victory Christian School. She competes in multiple sports but says that they all have one thing in common and that is that you have to prepare yourself to compete, no matter what sport you play.
“For me to become the athlete that I am today had taken a lot of hard work and dedication,” she said. “If you are not willing to dedicate the time and effort, you will not reach your full potential.”
As a junior, Motes plays volleyball and runs track and field for the Conquerors. She keeps herself motivated by knowing what the end result can be.
“One thing that helps me stay focused is the reward that comes from it,” she said. “Watching our team be successful and be the best that we can be makes it worth it.”
The Conquerors head volleyball coach Dan Donohue says that Taylor is a solid athlete that continues to improve her game.
“She has a lot of athletic ability and is still learning the fundamental aspects of the game,” coach Donohue said. “She has a huge upside and lots of potential. I am excited to see how this season goes for her.”
As an athlete and a person, Motes has had a few people that have made an impact on her life and career.
“I have a couple people that I look up to as role models and influences in my life,” Motes said. “The first is former University of Florida volleyball player T’ara Ceasar. She was an outstanding volleyball player and showed that hard work paid off. Another are my parents. They have always been there for me and helped me to become who I am today. If it was not for their support, I would not be where I am.”
During her time playing sports, Taylor has experienced some memorable moments. She says that one of her favorite is a big moment that she was able to enjoy with her teammates.
“The highlight of my career has been winning state,” she said. “Seeing our team’s hard work pay off was awesome.”
Outside of school sports, Motes also plays club volleyball at Ultimate 16 Open.
