2023 Liberty Tigers Boys Basketball Preview – Presented by Oklahoma Driving School

LIBERTY TIGERS

BOYS

Coach: Colby Wade

22-23 Record: 21-6

The cupboards are full at Liberty this season for head coach Colby Wade who has spent the last decade at the helm of the program. Wade said the returning players will certainly make an impact this season. “We were a state qualifier last season and return six of the seven who played minutes for us. We return four starters and our top three producers offensively,” said Wade. Jarren Cargil (6-2, Sr.) led the team with 18 points and 8.0 rebounds per game as a junior. Cargill is one of the top players in Class A and has the highlight reel to prove it. Also returning to the lineup is Trent Thompson (6-3, Sr.) at guard who scored on average 12 points and grabbed 7.0

rebounds a game. Also known for his defense, Thompson is the player who is willing to do anything coach Wade asks. Jayce Wheeler (5-11, Jr.) returns at guard with his 10 points and 3.0 rebounds a game. Wheeler shot 40 percent from the floor and is expected to have a great season. Barrett Brown (6-3, Sr.) will play forward giving the Tigers another threat in scoring and rebounding. Brady Cornwell (6-4, Sr.) can play in the paint as well. Cornwell will find his way to the basket and play solid defense. Another senior to watch is Nate Byrd (5-9) at guard. Look for the senior leadership to be strong this season for coach Wade and the Tigers. A group of sophomores will add depth and likely see playing time this year. They include Carson Reeder (5-11, G), Jaxon Brown (6-1, F), Jesse Cargil (6-3, G), and Zach Byrd (6-3, F). Assisting coach Wade this season is Collin Johnson.
