Berryhill’s Daizy Winningham Basketball Spotlight – Presented by Excel Therapy

By: Hunter Ferguson

Berryhill Girls Basketball player Daizy Winningham spoke to VYPE in a recent interview and shared “My favorite part of this team is playing with my classmates. This is our last year for high school basketball, the passion my teammates have is very strong (especially if we get on good runs). My coach, Coach Tate is also a big reason I love this year so much, she’s not only someone I look up to and respect but she’s a friend when need be. She’s able to understand me and coach me to be the best I’m able to be.”

For her final season, Winningham is working to “keep pushing myself in every aspect. To Lift up my team and show them leadership. To also find what I want to do in life and love what I do. 365 days is a lot of time, you can change your whole life in just a year. I want to be successful.” To make all of her hopes for the year come true she will be leaning on the things basketball has taught her. Specifically to “Keep moving, never hang your head when you make a mistake. Stuff happens but how you deal with it determines who you are.”

Winningham also told us about a teammate who has influenced the way she does thing and how she sees the world beyond the basketball court. “My teammate Adley Craig has let the biggest impression on me. She’s always someone I can depend on when I need help on and off the court. We’ve played together for 8 years. She’s helped me in ways no body can imagine. She’s my other half when playing basketball.” said Winningham.

Off-the-court Winningham participates in “BPA, My favorite teacher is the person in charge of it. I was in Prom Committee, FCCLA, and Elementary Basketball. I help coach Berryhill 5th grade girls.” Sharing that it s her family who inspires her through all she does. Expressing “The drive and passion my family gives to each other inspires me to become a better person. The high standards my family has pushes me to have high standards on the court as well.”

She wrapped things up by saying that “I want to thank my Dad, Grandma, Grandpa, Aunt and Sister the most. I wouldn’t be where I am without them. My family got me through so much. I also want to think Coach Tate for being the great coach I need. And thank you to every other coach who has ever spent time on me.”
