The Future Farmers of America organization is open to high school students and allows them to get hands-on experience in farming and agricultural areas. And for Addison Rowe, it also gives students the opportunity to form relationships with students from across the state.
“One of my favorite memories in FFA was the State Convention,” she recalled. “The environment is so enjoyable and I like being around all the people who share the same interests and outlook on life as you. You are in a place with people who are truly there for you, because they walk through the same life experiences as you.”
Rowe is a sophomore at Bixby High School, where she is the Secretary of the FFA officer team. As a member of FFA, she shows sheep and pigs, and also judges horses and livestock. Whenever she is competing, Addison knows that she is there for more than just herself.
“When I am showing it fills me with pride to know that I am representing Bixby FFA, I also feel a great pressure to represent them well.”
Brandon Sellers is the Bixby FFA sponsor and while he has only been around Rowe for a short amount of time, he says that she is an outstanding person and group member.
“I have only been her teacher since August,” Sellers said. “But it is apparent to me that she is extremely kind and will do anything to help her friends.”
While she has put in a lot of hard work to get to where she is today, both in the FFA and in life, Addison knows that she could not have done it on her own.
“Some of my biggest influences are my parents, my Ag teachers, and all of my friends,” she said. “They support me and are always there for me. When I made the decision to join Ag, my mother was my main support.”
