Max Dill

Bixby High School

Bixby High School’s Max Dill has participated in band since the 6th grade. Now a senior, Dill is the brass captain and a member of numerous clubs around campus.

“I became brass captain the summer before this school year started,” said Dill. “I am in Tri-M, National Honor Society, and Interact. All service-based clubs centered around different things; Tri-M is music, NHS is academics and community service, and Interact is solely focused on community service.”

As a member of the band, Dill said he’s made many great memories and friends over the last four years.

“I think that my favorite part of being in band has been all of the time that I have gotten to spend with my friends. Whether it’s in rehearsal or on trips my favorite memories are almost always with my friends,” said Dill. “I think I am going to have to go with the first time that we ever performed a full run of our show “Madness” during my junior year as my favorite memory. Madness was such an amazing show and I ended it on the stage in the front. After the last note we all ripped our horns off of our faces and just watched the crowd. I remember the energy on and off of the field was insane, the whole crowd was on its feet, and everyone was screaming their heads off. That is a moment that I don’t think I will ever forget.”

Dill said any student interested in being a member of the band should keep a few things in mind.

“My advice to younger students who are looking forward to joining band is don’t be too hard on yourself. If you don’t make an audition that sucks but don’t get hung up on it. Just keep going and work harder next time. Also, spend time with your friends. When you look back at your four years, you’ll remember the shows and the performances but the memories I treasure most are the ones after rehearsal or the morning before a competition when I was hanging out with my section so don’t skip out on those moments,” said Dill.

Next fall Dill plans to attend college in Norman, Oklahoma.

“After I graduate, I plan on attending the University of Oklahoma in Norman and majoring in Aerospace Engineering. I am currently considering working on a music minor as well, although even if I don’t minor in music, I plan on being in at least one ensemble while I am there,” said Dill.

In his free time Dill said he enjoys playing video games with his friends and practicing the trombone.
