Hi, what are you looking for?

Bixby

Bixby’s Camryn Hill – Bixby Spartans – Presented by Fieldhouse Gear

Camryn Hill of Bixby started playing competitive golf in the seventh grade, but she has been around the sport her entire life. Currently a junior at Bixby High School, Hill said her father is a big influence on her game.

“My dad has been one of the biggest influences in golf. He is a PGA teaching professional, and he has pushed me when I wanted to give up. When I see Jordan Speith or Lexi Thompson on television it makes me realize that I could have that opportunity and that it could be me in the future,” said Hill.
Playing for the varsity team has been a memorable experience for Hill. Hill said her teammates are some of her best friends.

“My teammates are my best friends. They are the people I am always with and just our connection and how much we love each other is just amazing. We all always get along and it is just a wonderful time when I am with them, and when it is time to get serious, we get serious. I have met my best friends through the team and just the connections I have made are amazing and I wouldn’t change it for the world. Ella Fryer, Maddie McIntyre, Emily Johnston, Zoe Blevins, Ava Smith, and Emma Fields are some of the best teammates I could have ever asked for,” said Hill.

This season Hill and her teammates got off to a good start and are looking to have a solid showing at the state tournament.

“This season started off good, with everything going on because of COVID-19 we all expected it to be different but in reality, it’s not. Recently, I hurt my left shoulder due to a tear in the labrum which completely changed this season. My teammates have had to step up with me being gone. I shot my personal best the season in a tournament (76, +4) at Owasso Golf & Athletic Club and won individually. That was the last tournament I was not hurt in or in any pain. As a team, we are hoping that I will be able to play in regionals and state in the upcoming weeks but as of now it is unsure.
Academics are just as important for Hill.

“Academics are very important to me. I am always making sure I have my assignments done and I try my hardest on them. I have had many stay up to three in the morning to get assignments done and try to make them the best that they could be,” said Hill. “Being a student-athlete at Bixby is so special because I have learned so many life lessons. I have learned time management, with having to balance so many things at once like golf practice, a job, still doing good in school. I have learned that you have to commit to things in order to succeed and learned to work well as a team and that life will always go on.”
