Bixby

Bixby’s Charlotte Hawkins – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Oklahoma Driving School

Charlotte Hawkins is a senior volleyball player at Bixby High School. She has worked hard to get to where she is today but also knows that she could not do it without some great and supportive people in her life.

“Every teammate I have by my side on each team plays a part in who I am on and off the court,” she said. “When it comes to Bixby we always talk about ‘playing for the person next to you’ and I truly believe that team success brings personal success. Always putting the team over myself has never been a regret of mine. We push each other to greatness like a domino effect. My parents and older sister also influence my love for the game because of how supportive they have been from day one. They make me realize how important it is to work hard in things you have passion for. Overall, I find my confidence in The Lord in which He can do anything through me. I always keep in mind that my calling is to love God and love people and as long as I am doing that through volleyball, my job is done.”

When she steps out on the court with her teammates, Hawkins is ready to compete against whoever is on the other side of the net. She recalls that the highlight moment of her career was against Owasso in the playoffs last season.
“Our best game in the Bixby program last year was in the Regionals against Owasso,” she said. “To this day Owasso is such a competitive team which makes for some really intense games. I thrive under pressure so having all that energy excites me. They have two really talented middles as well so that puts up a challenge on my end that always feels good when I execute and contribute to the win.”

Outside of volleyball, Charlotte is involved in student council. She is also joining the Pre-Med club as she looks to pursue the medical field in college.

“A class I take part in at school is called the Student Mentorship Program where students can assist and help out within the special needs classrooms. I meet some really sweet people and get to help others succeed all in one class period, I really enjoy it,” she said.
