Jake Wolfinbarger is a sophomore at Bixby High School and a member of the varsity baseball team. A second baseman for the Spartans, Wolfinbarger said he loves being part of the team that pushes one another to improve every day.
“I love not only being around great baseball players that push me to be better day in and day out, but also phenomenal people who are always encouraging and supporting me. My team is like family to me, and they’ve made me feel welcome from the start,” said Wolfinbarger.
This season Wolfinbarger said the team is playing well and ready to compete in post season play.
“It’s been a very good year so far. We’re about to compete in regionals and try to make it to state for the first time in 6A. After not getting the chance to compete last season in light of the pandemic, I’ve just been trying to soak in every moment and not take anything for granted,” said Wolfinbarger.
Wolfinbarger said he loves being a student-athlete at Bixby High School.
“Being a student-athlete at Bixby is extremely special because I get to compete at a high level athletically at a top 6A school while also being challenged academically. I’m surrounded by a coaching staff and teachers who really support me not only as a student and an athlete, but who really care about me as a person too. I love that I get to be in an environment every day that’s preparing me for the next level,” said Wolfinbarger.
Away from the baseball field, Wolfinbarger is a member of the FCA (Fellowship of Christian Athletes), National Honor Society and Student Council where he serves as an officer.
Baseball is a big part of his life in and out of school. The sophomore said his coaches are a big influence on his life.
“Big influences for me include the entire Bixby coaching staff and my summer ball coach, Parker Frazier. They not only set the foundation for how to play baseball the right way, but they also have played a big role in shaping who I am off the field because of the example they set. As far as the person I am, I have my family to thank as they have helped me develop and mature over the years,” said Wolfinbarger.
When he graduates in 2023, Wolfinbarger plans to play college ball while pursuing a degree in finance. This summer, Wolfinbarger plans to play a lot of baseball in multiple states.
“My plans over the summer include traveling to places like Louisville, Georgia, Alabama, Wichita, and Nashville for baseball. Every weekend that I’m in town, I’ll be serving at my church, Life Church, and hanging out with my friends. And of course, I’ll have to carve out some time for my summer assignments.”
