Bixby High School
The woodwind captain of the Pride of Bixby band, Samantha McKimmey, is a senior this year and is thankful for her time with her bandmates through her high school career.
“This year came with many incredible memories and lessons that I will take with me after high school. I was extremely proud of all the work every student put into this program and I believe they will continue to do so. It was a great senior year, and I am so thankful to be a part of the Pride of Bixby,” said McKimmey.
McKimmey started her journey in band when she was in the sixth grade. Now a senior, McKimmey is involved in several activities including National Honor Society, Interact Club where she serves as secretary, and is the current president of Tri-M Honors Society.
“My plans as of right now are to major in Music Education and possibly minor in interior design,” said McKimmey.
During her time in the band, McKimmey said she has made many great memories she will take with her for life.
“The thing I have enjoyed most from my time in band would be the people I have grown close with throughout my years in Bixby Bands, we have made many memories and I’m so grateful for them,” said McKimmey.
The senior offers this advice to any student wanting to join band.
“For younger students who are wanting to join band, I would say to connect with music outside of class. Whether it’s listening to certain pieces, or practicing in your free time, it truly helps to gain a better relationship with the music you play, and I wish I would have learned that sooner,” said McKimmey.
When she has time, McKimmey said she enjoys playing music and being around friends.
“In my free time, I love playing my clarinet alone, as well as in ensembles. I also love to spend time with my friends and go to antique stores.”
