Bixby

Bixby’s Savannah Lee – Bixby Spartan – Presented by Bixby Flower Basket

One half of the No. 1 doubles tennis team at Bixby High School, Savannah Lee started playing tennis at the age of 12 and now she is a senior preparing for graduation.

“I have played tennis for six years,” said Lee. I fell in love with the game at the age of 12 years old when I was recovering from a gymnastics injury and needed something I could do to stay in shape and feed my competitive drive.”

Lee focused her attention to tennis and now she is one of the top players on the team. A team she loved sharing the high school experience with for several years.

“I have played tennis with most of my teammates for the past six years. I feel like we’ve really grown up together. Sharing both our life experiences and passions for tennis have helped forge some amazing friendships. The thing I love about our team is that we push each other to be successful both on and off the court,” said Lee.

This season was a special one for Lee and several of her teammates.

“This has been an incredibly special season for the entire varsity team who are all seniors this year. The challenges we faced last year due to the pandemic gave us a reason to compete even harder this year. I’m extremely proud of our team’s performance this season and hope to play our best at state this year,” said Lee. “Being a student-athlete at Bixby is like a community, we support each other in each of the different sports. I feel like the coaches and faculty push student-athletes to be the best version of themselves.”

Lee plans to attend Oklahoma State University next fall and pursue a degree in Accounting and Finance. Academics have always played an important role in Lee’s life.

“They are extremely important to me. Striking a balance between good performance in the classroom and on the court is something that has been instilled in me by my parents for my entire life,” Lee said.

Also a member of National Honor Society, Student Council and Leadership, Lee has made the most of the high school experience at Bixby. She said her parents have been there every step of the way to guide her.

“Both of my parents have helped me be the best person I can. They know how to bring the best out in me and I’m extremely thankful for all they have done for me throughout the years. My dad was more of the instructor and my mom was my biggest cheerleader. I’ve also been extremely fortunate to have some incredible coaches that have shaped me into the player I am today,” said Lee.

This summer she plans on working at a local country club where she has access to the tennis facilities so she can play and practice when she is not working.
