Tess Divin, a student at Bixby High School, stands out as an active member of the FFA chapter, taking on the role of reporter while also showcasing her talents in the livestock showing team with her sheep, Lloyd.
At the heart of her FFA journey lies her current agriculture teacher, Mr. Nettles, who has played a pivotal role in shaping Divin throughout high school. “He has helped me learn all about agriculture and how it impacts someone’s life,” Divin said.
Divin’s passion and dedication to FFA were ignited during her eighth-grade year when she accomplished the Star Discovery
Degree. This achievement, combined with her near-clean sweep at the Bixby livestock competition during her freshman year, fueled her commitment to the chapter. Recently, Divin successfully campaigned for the role of reporter, a notable accomplishment she cherishes.
The valuable lessons learned in agriculture have transcended into Divin’s daily life, particularly in the areas of leadership and confidence. “It really gave me the ability to project myself to the world, and I will be a great leader to the FFA members of my chapter,” she said.
With a strong sense of camaraderie, Divin also expressed her admiration for her classmates, especially the show team.
“We all have created such a strong bond between each other and support each other wherever we go,” she said.
As the show season approaches, Divin is eager for success with her sheep, Lloyd, hoping to secure many wins and gain more valuable experience as a showman. As she looks back on her years of showing, Divin
acknowledges her biggest supporter—her dad. “I wouldn’t be in any of this if it wasn’t for him,” she said. “Growing up, he always supported me in my livestock showing career, and I know he will support whatever I do in the future.”
Looking beyond high school, Divin envisions a future in veterinary medicine.
Her plans include applying to OSU and entering one of their veterinary programs, with the ultimate goal of owning her own clinic for large animals.
